The home development scene for game consoles is fairly large. A lot of knowledge is being exchanged on how to get into the system, reverse engineer it and create really cool software for it. The last time I took actively part was when the
Dreamcast came out.
The sad part is that some people think they need to protect their knowledge so very much. Usually the reason they give is that others might do malicious things with that knowledge. What they don't understand is, those bad other guys are usually capable enough to just do it without them. In times of Open Source. the benefits of sharing knowledge are visible enough. The speed of development and even the security improves with more people having access.
Looks like I have to reverse engineer the reverse engineered software to find out about what I want to know. A tedious and probably a time consuming task. Just to let someone have his "
Herrenwissen".
